The Silent Intruder: A Russell’s Viper Rescue

It was late in the evening when a distressed call came in—a Russell’s viper had been spotted inside a house compound. The residents were terrified, knowing how dangerous the snake could be. We quickly grabbed our gear and rushed to the location.

As we arrived, the homeowner led us to the backyard, pointing toward a corner near a pile of bricks. The viper lay coiled, perfectly still, its pattern blending seamlessly with the ground. A faint but steady hiss filled the air—a clear warning that it was aware of our presence.

We knew this wasn’t a snake to take lightly. Russell’s vipers are quick to strike and highly venomous, with a bite that can cause severe internal bleeding. Handling it by hand wasn’t an option.

Moving carefully, we positioned the bagger in front of its path. The snake remained motionless for a moment, then suddenly started slithering forward. With one smooth movement, it entered the bag, making this a completely contact-free rescue.

The homeowners, now at ease, watched as we secured the snake safely. With no injuries and no unnecessary risks, we took the viper to a nearby safe habitat, far from human settlements, and released it back into the wild.

As it vanished into the undergrowth, it left behind an important reminder—respect the wild, and it will respect you.
