It was just another day for UCHUU TRUST when a call came in, sending our team into action. A sub-adult python had become entangled in a ghost net covering a well, a situation that could have easily ended in tragedy. Ghost nets, often discarded by humans, are a silent and deadly threat to wildlife, snaring animals who come into contact with them. But today, we weren’t about to let this snake become another victim.
Racing against time, our team arrived at the site, where we saw the beautiful python struggling in the tangled net. Its movements were frantic, trying to break free, but it was trapped. Without hesitation, we quickly assessed the situation and knew what needed to be done. With calm precision, we used a restraining tube to secure the snake’s head, ensuring it would stay calm and protected while we carefully worked to cut through the net.
Each cut was deliberate, each movement calculated, as we worked together to free the python. Once it was free, we inspected the snake for injuries. Fortunately, it was unharmed—healthy, strong, and ready for the wild once again. The relief was palpable, but we knew the job wasn’t done. It was important to share this lesson with the caller and anyone else who might listen. Ghost nets are a menace, but they are preventable. We emphasized the need to remove these dangerous traps and dispose of them properly to avoid future harm to wildlife.
With the snake freed and the situation under control, the caller agreed to release the python into a nearby safe habitat. As the python slithered into the tall grasses, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Another life had been saved, and another lesson had been shared. Our work doesn’t stop with rescues—it’s about education and prevention, too.
This rescue was a reminder of the hidden dangers wildlife face and the importance of every single one of us in preserving the balance of nature. Today, the python is free, and we continue to fight the silent battle against ghost nets, ensuring that more animals don’t have to face the same fate.
